Abstract
Objectives: Quantitative sudomotor axon reflex test (QSART) measuring activity of postganglionic andsympathetic sudomotor fibers is widely used as a sensitive test for autonomic dysfunction. However, itsnormal values are not established in Korean population yet. Therefore the aim of this study is to establishnormal values for QSART, and to investigate the gender and age effect on its value.

Methods: Thirty-three healthy volunteers (15 women, 18 men) aged 20-69 years were recruited. QSARTwere measured at medial forearm, lateral proximal calf, and distal medial leg by using QSWEATTM (WRMedical Electronics Co., Minnesota, USA).

Results: The mean volumes of sweat responses on forearm, proximal calf, and distal leg were 0.34¡¾0.37§¡/§², 0.61¡¾0.51 §¡/§², 0.70¡¾0.42 §¡/§² in women, and 0.79¡¾0.81 §¡/§², 1.53¡¾1.52 §¡/§², 1.73¡¾1.17 §¡/§² in men, respectively showing women had less than one half of the sweat volumes of men. There were no significant differences in the mean volumes measured at according to age (p>0.05). Howeverthe ratio of sweat volume on proximal leg relative to distal leg significantly increased with age(p=0.044).

Conclusion: This study shows that the sweat response of women is less than half of men. However sweatresponse is comparable according to age. More recruitment of healthy population is needed to generalizethe study results.
